Started because I am tired of everything in art history having to represent something. Maybe Cassat just liked to draw ladies sitting on balconies, rather than depicting the barrier between women and the world?
So many art historians place their own cultural bias and hindsight into their interpretations. As Freud said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." And so it should be with art.
